Simple tools for safer, smoother days on the trail

A few essentials make your hike safer and more enjoyable:

- Wear sturdy hiking shoes with good grip.
- Bring enough water, snacks, and a map or GPS device.
- Start early for more stable weather and quieter trails.
- Use trekking poles on steep or rocky sections.
- Check the forecast before heading out.
- Choose routes suited to your fitness and experience.
- Protect your skin with high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
- Respect all signage, trail conditions, and protected areas.

Roda de Pütia, the circular hike around iconic Sass de Pütia
The loop around Sass de Pütia is the signature hike of Passo delle Erbe. About 12 km long with 900 m of ascent, it circles the massif through meadows, ridges, and panoramic huts. From the pass, trail 8A leads to Ütia Fornella and Ütia Sotpütia, then climbs to the Pütia saddle. Views open toward Marmolada, Sasso Croce, Lavarella, and Conturines. From here, hikers can reach the summit via a short via ferrata or continue the loop on a wide path through meadows to Vaciara Hut. From Vaciara Hut continue to Passo Göma (2.106 meters), a panoramic point that offers breathtaking views. Return towards Ütia Fornella through forests and wide meadows.


Epic trails of the Dolomites
Alta Via nr. 2 and other iconic treks
Alta Via nr. 2 is a trekking route through the eastern Dolomites in Italy, stretching about 180 km from Bressanone to Belluno. It crosses some of the most spectacular peaks, including the Sella group, Pale di San Martino, and Marmolada, mostly at high altitude with significant elevation changes and breathtaking views. Difficulty ranges from medium to demanding, with exposed passages requiring attention.
The Passo delle Erbe serves as a variant of the second stage, from Plose Hut to Genova Hut via Pütia Gorge.
It is also part of the Munich-Venice trek, a 550 km Alpine route connecting Munich and Venice over 3–4 weeks through forests, pastures, and traditional villages along ancient transit roads.
The Dolorama Trail, 60 km long, winds through valleys, alpine passes, and mountain huts from Alpe di Luson to Laion at 2,356 m a.s.l. It takes around 4 days depending on pace and stops, offering panoramic views of the Odle, Marmolada, Sciliar, Sasso Lungo, and Sass de Pütia. The second stage crosses Passo delle Erbe from Montemuro Refuge to Genova Refuge.
