Passo delle Erbe is not just a natural wonder, it is the living heart of Ladin culture. Here, ancient languages, legends, and traditions have survived for centuries, where Alpine myths meet Mediterranean influences.

At the threshold of wonder

The Passo delle Erbe (known in Ladin as Ju de Börz) lies at 1,987 m a.s.l., right at the entrance to the Puez-Odle Nature Park. This spectacular mountain pass connects Val Badia with the Valle Isarco / Eisacktal valley and stands out as one of the most scenic gateways to the Dolomites.

Here, nature reveals its purest essence: gentle alpine pastures, dense spruce forests, and the imposing rocky mass of the Sass de Putia (2,875 m) dominate the landscape. The area is easily accessible from Antermoia / Untermoi year-round, while in summer and autumn it can also be reached from Val di Funes, Eores and Luson.

Passo delle Erbe lies on an ancient cultural and linguistic frontier. For centuries, this area marked the meeting point between the Ladin-speaking communities of Val Badia and the German-speaking valleys to the north. Even today, visitors can sense this blend in the local traditions, cuisine, and hospitality that make the area unique.

Where time slows and nature breathes

In summer, Passo delle Erbe is a paradise for hikers, bikers and nature lovers, while in winter it transforms into a quiet alpine retreat. From December to April, the snow-covered meadows and forests at the foot of the Sass de Putia offer perfect conditions for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and sledding.

Its remoteness in the cold months creates an atmosphere of total peace, making it one of the few places in the Dolomites where you can truly experience the silence of the mountains.

Ütia de Börz mountain inn is located right at the top of the pass, offering warm Alpine hospitality, breathtaking views, and authentic Ladin dishes prepared with local ingredients.

Putia

The icon of the Dolomites

The Sass de Putia (2,875 m a.s.l.), called Peitlerkofel in German and Sas de Pütia in Ladin, rises in solitary splendor from the heart of the Dolomites. This northwestern cornerstone of the Dolomite range is admired for its dramatic shape, steep cliffs and panoramic summit views stretching over the Puez-Geisler and Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Parks, the Marmolada glacier, and the Sella massif.

The mountain holds special meaning for climbers: it is here that Reinhold Messner, the legendary South Tyrolean mountaineer, began his lifelong passion for the peaks.
